Why Mulk?

Surah Al-Mulk (The Sovereignty) was the second surah I chose to study.

A Meccan surah revealed during the persecution of the early Muslims.

What stood out to me most is that reciting this surah is from the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Surah Tabārak (Al-Mulk) is the protector from the punishment of the grave.”

-Narrated by Abdullāh ibn Masʿūd (رضي الله عنه)

And it was a part of his nightly routine, as reported:

“The Prophet ﷺ would not go to sleep until he recited Al-Sajdah and Al-Mulk.”

-Narrated by Jābir ibn ʿAbdillāh (رضي الله عنه)

1400 years later, it is now also a part of my nightly routine.

Peace and blessings upon the Nabi of Allah.
