Understanding Surah Al-Mulk

Because reading Surah Al-Mulk is a protection from the punishment of the grave, I had always assumed, before learning its meaning, that it was a scary surah, one about the Day of Judgement, Hellfire, etc. However, I am pleasantly surprised.

This surah is more about God’s declaration of power over the disbelievers in Mecca, yet its message transcends time.

Some verses that stood out to me:

The Creator knows His creation deeply:

Whether you keep your words secret or state them openly, God knows fully what is in every heart [67:13]

How could He who created not know His own creation, when He is the Most Subtle, the All Aware? [67:14]

The birds are kept in the sky by Allah, just as our provision is provided by Him.

Do they not see the birds above them spreading and closing their wings? It is only the Lord of Mercy who holds them up: He watches over everything [67:19]

Who can provide for you if He withholds His provision? Yet they persist in their insolence and their avoidance of the Truth [67:21]

Peace & blessings upon the Nabi of Allah.
