Observations in Madinah
﷽
I am not wealthy, but I have never known hunger or homelessness. When I am cold, I can always turn on the heater or wear a warm coat. I am not wealthy, yet I have never known what it’s like to really want something and not be able to buy it. If I need something, I can easily work and save for it, alhamdulilah.
During this spiritual retreat, I have seen people fighting for free food. Families sleeping in pathways, their children lying on the bare floor. The air carries the scent of people who have not showered for days, the result of those who have journeyed for days and do not have a place to rest their heads.
The workers here always smile when I say I live in America. They say, “Wow, mashallah.” Wow indeed. I too am a refugee child from a war-torn country. Living in the US has given me comforts I do not take for granted.
Peace and blessings upon the Nabi of Allah.
